Our History

Shenandoah Girls Haven was founded in January 1998 by Pastor Steve Grubbs

as a ministry of Shenandoah Baptist Church in Cleveland, Tennessee.

The church itself was planted by Steve Grubbs in 1988, beginning in the banquet room of a local Holiday Inn. From those humble beginnings, Shenandoah Baptist Church grew into a family-oriented independent Baptist congregation committed to the Great Commission, Bible preaching, and practical ministry to the community.

A decade later, sensing a clear need to reach hurting young women with the same Gospel-centered care already being offered to young men through the related Shenandoah Ranch ministry, Pastor Grubbs and the church launched Shenandoah Girls Haven. Located on approximately 30 acres just one mile from the church, the Haven was established to provide a safe, structured, Christ-centered home for young ladies facing spiritual, family, and social challenges.

From the beginning, the vision has been simple and consistent: to show girls that lasting hope and joy are found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and to help them learn to live for Him in everyday life. Through Bible teaching in the home, classroom, and church, the Haven seeks to address struggles at the heart level, trusting that genuine transformation by Christ will be reflected in a young woman’s words and actions.

For more than twenty-five years, Shenandoah Girls Haven has continued this work as an extension of Shenandoah Baptist Church, offering a place of refuge, structure, education, and spiritual nurture for young women in need.
